Daniel's Story from his Mother's Heart

Diagnosed with Hypoplastic right heart syndrome, the underdevelopment of the right side of the heart, particularly the ventricle. Normally, the right ventricle pushes blood out of the heart and to the lungs where it can pick up oxygen. The blood with oxygen then moves to the left side of the heart which pumps the blood to the rest of the body. HRHS makes it difficult or impossible to pass blood to the lungs, decreasing the amount of oxygen for the rest of the body.

Daniel has undergone multiple successful open-heart surgeries at Texas Children's Hospital to correct his condition. The Local Heart Foundation was able to fund all travel expenses including lodging, food, and gas while he and his family were in Houston for each surgery.
