Briggs was diagnosed with severe pulmonary valve stenosis, a moderate ventricular septal defect and a small patent foramen ovale. The Local Heart Foundation provided assistance with lodging, food, and gas expenses for 3 weeks while the family was in Austin for Briggs' open heart surgery.
